Unless you have been hiding in a cave, no doubt you have heard about CBD in the news, social media, the pub or around the water cooler at work. However, despite the recent mainstream attention, public understanding of what CBD is and how it works is still very limited.
In short, CBD, otherwise known as Cannabidiol is one of well over 50 active compounds naturally found in a small group of plants in the Cannabaceae family, collectively referred to as Cannabis. This group of plants consists of three primary species: Cannabis Indica, Cannabis Ruderalis, and Cannabis Sativa.
CBD is known for its many health benefits but unlike THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol), it has no psychoactive properties meaning it doesn’t leave you feeling “high” after use. All our CBD products are lab certified to contain under 0.2% THC meaning that they won’t give you the unwanted effects of THC, and are 100% legal in the UK and Europe.
Whilst there is still a serious lack of peer-reviewed scientific studies relating to the benefits of CBD, there is some demonstrable science behind the numerous claims that CBD can have a huge positive impact on all manner of conditions, from Arthritis and Multiple Sclerosis (MS), to anxiety, stress, sleep disorders, Parkinson’s Disease and far more.
What is now proven, is that we all have a natural endocannabinoid system (ECS). This system holds a pivotal role in controlling areas such as mood, memory, appetite, pain and immunity through our entire central nervous and immune systems.
The body naturally creates a form of cannabinoid that react with our endocannabinoid system, however, relatively recent research shows that this system within our body also responds positively to some forms of externally created cannabinoids such as cannabidiol (aka CBD).
It is widely accepted that the wellbeing of all our natural systems rely upon the balance or homeostasis of the systems. Research has found that the introduction of externally produced CBD can have a cascade effect on our various systems encouraging widespread homeostasis within the human body, resulting in improved health and the alleviation of various symptoms among users.
It is also worth noting that the endocannabinoid system (ECS) is our body’s largest known system in terms of the number of receptors. These receptors run through our entire body which goes some way to explain why CBD is so effective on such a wide-ranging number of conditions and subsequently the recent explosive growth in interest in CBD and CBD related products.
